Navantia is finalizing the details of its new USV “Poniente” that will be presented at UNVEX’24. This new boat incorporates a steering system that provides better manoeuvrability in remote mode.
With a length of 12 meters and 3.8 meters beam “Poniente” can sail at a maximum speed of 20 knots
“Thanks to Navantia’s SEOS system, it will have the capacity to be fully autonomous, implementing international regulations to avoid collisions at sea and allowing missions to be executed with minimum human intervention,” explains the shipbuilder.
The ship has 4/5G connectivity and satellite communication, as well as a long-range radio link, prepared for integration with the Naiad system (Naval Advanced Integrated Autonomous Vehicles Defence System), which manages the deployment of any unmanned surface, air or underwater vehicle from the Scomba command and control system.
The USV Poniente will enable the evolution of autonomous navigation techniques, through positioning and manoeuvring control systems, global route planning, or obstacle detection and avoidance through AI image processing.
